The Fifth Shore
The Fifth Shore unfolds as a coastal retreat a space where geometry, texture, and shifting light choreograph an atmosphere of ease and quiet spectacle. Set along the edge of the sea, the design draws from regional craft and climate, embracing the language of shade, breeze, and slow transitions.
More than a singular destination, the project comprises a series of indoor and outdoor bar and lounge environments, hospitality breakout spaces embedded within the hotel’s social core. Each zone is conceived not as an isolated program, but as part of a calibrated sequence of spatial moods: from open-air terraces exposed to the saline wind, to enclosed lounges marked by deep shadows and intimate scale.
A lattice canopy woven from timber and steel hovers above one of the core lounges, casting a dynamic field of shadows that evolve with the sun. This ever-changing ceiling softens the architectural mass, tempering brightness while offering protection from the desert heat. Beneath it, anchored seating, low-set tables, and a landscape of tactile finishes; stone, cast bronze, woven fibre, form gathering areas that oscillate between formal and informal, interior and exterior.
Task
Conceive and deliver a coastal hospitality environment that responds to climate, culture, and atmosphere integrating shade, crafted design, and spatial openness with considered breakout spaces for hosting connection.
